The Youth Leadership Initiative of the UVA Center for Politics wants to promote civil discourse and reaching compromise in an effort to rebuild democratic traditions. Students at the UVA Center for Politics created an Emmy nominated documentary, “Common Grounds” that follows their experiences learning to listen, appreciate, and compromise on the views of their peers. This 29 minute film provides insight into what is needed to get political discourse back on track. Following the documentary staff from the Youth Leadership Initiative will guide viewers through the “Talking Turkey: Taking the ‘Dis’ Out of Civil Discourse” resources found on the www.youthleadership.net website. Participation is FREE as are all materials used in the program.
