Educators

For K–12 educators, Civic Learning Week provides the opportunity to celebrate success, launch new projects and initiatives, plan and brainstorm for future experiences, and continue to strengthen existing work.

  • Celebrate: Civic learning sparks the opportunity to collaborate with peers, community members, civic leaders, and many others. Celebrating the civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions developed during these meaningful experiences shines a light on the impact of this work and sparks lifelong civic engagement.
  • Launch: Civic Learning Week offers a platform to showcase the relevance and importance of civic learning, from considering different points of view to utilizing evidence and collaboration, inspiring and preparing students for a lifetime of informed civic engagement.
  • Engage: Engaging in civic learning activities can captivate students’ interest and encourage them to explore these subjects further. Providing opportunities for relevant, empathy-driven, and genuine connections will help your students go beyond and increase their buy-in and excitement.

All of these approaches to engaging with Civic Learning Week continue to raise awareness around the importance of civic education and connect our students, teachers, schools, districts, and the broader community.

What’s more, this week provides an opportunity to focus on a subject that doesn’t always get a lot of time in our nation’s classrooms. Civics can be incorporated into any subject area, and we encourage creativity.

No matter how you choose to participate, Civic Learning Week is about building community while building democracy!
