Chat with Revolutionary Women about Equality

March 12 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

EST  | Online

Equality is a key principle in our constitutional democracy, but how did it evolve from a revolutionary ideal to an important value for all Americans?

During Civic Learning Week, join GBH Education and actors from Boston’s Freedom Trail for an interactive conversation about the principle of equality through the voices of two remarkable figures: Hannah Adams, the first woman in the U.S. to work as a professional writer, and Mercy Otis Warren, a prominent political writer and historian of the American Revolution. Watch Adams and Warren discuss the meaning of equality in their time as well as their lives and perspectives. As the conversation unfolds students will engage directly with the reenactors, asking questions to deepen their understanding of how our modern notion of equality was conceived and how different groups sought inclusion in its promise.

As students explore this enduring principle through the lens of these historical figures, they will reflect on their own experiences of equality in the United States today, bridging the gap between the past and present. This interactive session offers a unique opportunity to examine how the revolutionary ideal of equality continues to shape our society, inspiring efforts to create a more inclusive nation.

This event will be available to watch by registering via Zoom or by watching a live stream on GBH Education’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
