Today’s Vote: Electoral College

March 8, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

EST  | Virtual

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate invites 8th-12th grade classes to join us for a facilitated virtual Senate simulation that explores the question of whether or not a constitutional amendment should be enacted to abolish the Electoral College. In this one-hour program, students will role-play U.S. senators as they learn about the process for electing the President of the United States, and consider a resolution to amend or end the use of the Electoral College.

Participants will be introduced to the federal legislative process including resolutions and constitutional amendments; participants will gain an understanding of what the Electoral College is and how it works.

This session is designed for 10-20 classrooms to join via Zoom.

This is a participatory session that encourages students to share their ideas and questions, listen actively to each other, and propose legislative solutions.

Educators are encouraged to actively facilitate their class’s participation in the program. Materials provided will support teachers in continuing to explore the topic with their students.
