SUMMARY:Speaking Freely: Examining Free Speech in Modern America
DESCRIPTION:Hosted in partnership with American Public Square at Jewell\, the first program of American Public Square’s Civility Examined series\, “Speaking Freely” will address the question of whether free speech is undermining American democracy or is essential to its survival. The United States has debated answers for more than a century\, since joining WWI to “make the world safe for democracy.” \nJoin us for a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by Margaret Talev (director of Syracuse University’s Institute for Democracy\, Journalism and Citizenship) exploring free speech in America – its evolution\, its definition and its impact on politics\, education and the daily lives of U.S. residents. More details on panelists to come. \nThis program will be livestreamed and hosted in person at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. The evening will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. CT\, followed by the start of the panel at 6:00 p.m. CT. \nHosted in partnership with American Public Square at Jewell.
