SUMMARY:Bringing Student Civic Learning & Reflection to Life with Infographics
DESCRIPTION:Join Facing History & Ourselves and KQED during Civic Learning Week to explore ways students can identify\, research\, and communicate about issues they care about. Explore teaching strategies and ready-to-use curricular resources that develop student’s civic knowledge and skills using Facing History’s Approach to Civic Education. Then explore making infographics with KQED and learn first hand how the language of visual design can motivate students and help them represent complex ideas\, information and data. Participants will walk away with planning tools for student-created infographics and methods to research civic issues.

SUMMARY:Developing Students’ Civic Imagination in Challenging Times
DESCRIPTION:In this highly divisive time when our democracy may be at risk\, it is crucial for students to have opportunities to think beyond the current state of the world\, chart new paths forward\, and envision a better world. \nJoin us to learn about civic imagination and how it can help deepen young people’s civic understanding\, skills\, and dispositions. Participants will hear about ways to help young people map and analyze stories that inspire and connect people across differences\, and develop creative solutions to civic issues they care about. The presenters will share examples and resources so that participants can activate their students’ civic imagination in different school and classroom contexts. \nYou will be eligible to receive one-hour of professional development credit for participation if you watch the webinar. You will be able to download a certificate of completion from your inbox within the week of the webinar. Check with your school or district in advance of the webinar to ensure that the professional development credit is accepted.
