SUMMARY:Digital Storytelling: A Powerful Tool for Civic Education
DESCRIPTION:This Civic Learning Week\, we invite educators to an in-depth review Civic Life Project’s free\, editable 4-lesson plan unit\, Compelling Interviews for Civic Engagement. Using digital storytelling as a tool\, this unit is designed to build inquiry and activate an engaged student citizenry. \nCompelling Interviews for Civic Engagement is a part of Civic Life Project’s semester-long three-unit curriculum Democracy in Action\, developed in collaboration with the National Council for the Social Studies. The curriculum empowers students to create short documentaries on issues they care about\, showcase their films to their communities\, and ignite dialogue and civic action! \nPanelists: \nCatherine Tatge and Dominique Lasseur: Co-Founders of Civic Life Project and award-winning and acclaimed documentarians.\nJuanita Montes de Oca: Action Civics Instructional Design Expert \nProgram: \nCivic Life Project Co-Founders\, award-winning and acclaimed documentarians Catherine Tatge and Dominique Lasseur\, will kick off the discussion by briefly introducing participating educators to the organization’s proven digital storytelling for civic education program\, which combines core civics concepts with documentary training and production. \nEducator and action civics instructional design expert\, Juanita Montes de Oca\, will then present Civic Life Project’s “Effective Interviews for Civic Engagement” learning modules followed by questions to prompt participating educators to provide crucial feedback on this free editable lesson plan. \nHow to Join: \nPlease register using the Eventbrite page.
