SUMMARY:Scholar Exchange with the National Constitution Center
DESCRIPTION:My Advanced Government/Civics class had a scholar exchange with Sarah Harris of the National Constitution Center and Judge Karoline Mehalchick\, a recently appointed federal district court judge\, about the 14th Amendment. My students were challenged by questions about what citizenship is and what rights and responsibilities do citizens have. It was an informative and fun session. SUMMARY:Classroom Citizenship Reflection
DESCRIPTION:We began Civic Learning Week by reflecting on what it means to be a “good citizen” in school\, as we reviewed classroom agreements with our new trimester class groups. Through a gallery walk students used sticky notes to provide examples of five pillars of school citizenship: following school rules\, being respectful of school property\, displaying good character\, being respectful of other people and their property\, and giving back to the school community.
