Join this series of discussions hosted by our youth moderators! The DemocracyReady NY youth planning committee is composed of students from across New York State. Their event program addresses three questions:
Q: How can students be involved in the policy-making process to advocate for their schools and for their educational rights?
● An interview with Dr. Lester W. Young, Jr., Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents
Q: How can students be civically engaged in their communities?
● A panel featuring Josh Lazafan, who at 23 became the youngest Nassau County Legislator discussing how young people in New York State can be civically engaged as non-voters outside of the classroom
Q: How can we make connections between civic learning in schools and communities?
● A panel discussion among school leaders, teachers, and youth activists about the opportunities for civic learning in the classroom and opportunities for civic engagement within schools and local communities
